To make our workouts more efficient and safer we ask that

everyone please read the following information carefully.

After much reflection and discussion, the CCC Board has formulated the following guidelines in order to realize our principal goals of safety for you and your hounds, and of making each workout maximally educational for all participating. Please understand that each item is important and based on our collective experiences in this sport and running these practices. If you do not understand any part of these guidelines please feel free to discuss them with any member of our Board. Most of us are usually at each workout.

1.         If you and your hound are brand new to coursing you are welcome to attend, but may not actually "run" your dog on the lure the first time without preliminary work to determine his/her aptitude for "follow."  Please call Carol if you are unsure about this. (425/222-4734, evenings) This preliminary work may be done at home ahead of time, or on the field. We know from experience that this extra step can make the difference between long-term success and failure.  Another way to say this is that it is far easier to form good habits than to re-train bad ones.

2.         You MUST be "signed up" with the "huntmaster" 5 minutes BEFORE the announced starting time, i.e. no later than 9:55 for a 10 am workout. This has become an absolute necessity with the larger numbers of hounds attending. It is impossible to organize for everyone's varying needs without having everyone present by a specific time.

3.         You must have your "slipper" and/or "catcher" lined up and ready before you are called to the line. This is really important if we are going to be able to allow each hound two runs. We know there is a certain amount of "down time" when it is great to visit, but your primary responsibility is to pay attention to your turn in the running order so that things run smoothly. Check the white board regularly so you are ready when it is your turn.  Do not expect the huntmaster to hunt you--listen and be ready, or you may miss your turn.

4.         There will be absolutely NO flexi-leads allowed on the field, even for potty walking or for "spectator" dogs. NO exceptions for any breed of any size. If you come only with a flexi, you will not be able to participate. Please ask any CCC member about what correct and safe equipment you should have if you are not sure.

5.         Please refrain from any visiting with the lure operator. This is for safety reasons.

6.         Please stand, with or without your hounds, well back from the line, also for obvious safety reasons. If you have a youngster (hound, not human) that needs to watch, this should still be far enough back so that you are both safe. If you are not sure, ask. This also goes for potty walking which should *not* be done near the finish line area (near the lure operator).  Please pick up after your dog.  All dog leavings and garbage must be taken home by you.

7.         Last, please remember that all of us who are running these workouts are volunteers, and we all have dogs to run, too. This means that we all need help, just as we are available to help you. Your cheerful cooperation and occasional offers of a hand in getting our dogs to and from the line and walking them out will be ever so appreciated.

See you on the field!
